Privacy Policy
Effective September 6, 2026
This policy covers the one form on this site: the three-question scan request (email, website URL, average daily site users). Preclusion is not a law firm and this is not legal advice — that disclaimer applies here too, not just on the results screen.
Information you give us
When you submit the scan request form, we collect:
- The email address you type in
- The website URL you type in
- The average daily site users figure you type in
From these three inputs, we compute a statutory-exposure figure server-side and store it alongside your submission. We never ask you to type in, and never store, that figure — it's derived, not collected.
Information collected automatically
Separately from what you type, we collect:
- The Referer header sent by your browser, if any, at the moment you submit
- Your IP address, briefly, in order to (a) run a spam/abuse check and (b) verify the CAPTCHA challenge below. We never store your IP address in raw form. Before it touches our database, it's converted with a one-way hash (SHA-256, with a private salt) into a value that can't be reversed back into an IP address. That hashed value is used only to detect an unusual volume of submissions from the same origin in a short window.
Cloudflare Turnstile (bot / spam protection)
The last step of the form loads a CAPTCHA widget from Cloudflare (Turnstile) to confirm you're a real visitor, not an automated script. Loading that widget lets Cloudflare set its own cookies and collect its own device signals for that purpose — that collection happens on Cloudflare's side, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy, not ours. Separately, our server sends Cloudflare your IP address and the challenge response token to verify the CAPTCHA; this is the one point at which your raw IP address leaves our systems, even though it's never written to our database in raw form.
Who we share your information with
We don't sell your information. We share it with the vendors that run this form, each acting as a processor on our behalf:
- Neon (database hosting) — stores every field listed above, for every submission that passes our spam checks. This is our system of record.
- Resend (email delivery) — receives your email address to send you a confirmation, and receives your email, website URL, daily-users figure, exposure figure, and referrer to send an internal alert to our team.
- Cloudflare (bot protection) — see above.
What we don't store
- A hidden field on the form exists solely to catch automated bots. If it's filled in, the entire submission — including any value in that field — is discarded immediately: no database row, no emails, nothing retained.
- If our spam or abuse checks reject a submission (too many requests from the same origin in a short window, a failed CAPTCHA, or a high volume of total submissions site-wide that day), nothing is stored and no email is sent. You'll see a generic error on-screen either way — we don't disclose which check was triggered.
- Your raw IP address, in any form, as described above.
- The CAPTCHA response token itself, once Cloudflare has verified it.
How long we keep it
Submission records are retained indefinitely — we don't currently have an automatic deletion schedule for the email, website URL, or daily-users figure you submit. The one exception is the hashed IP value described above, which we intend to clear from a submission around 30 days after it's created. If you'd like your submission deleted sooner, contact us using the details below.
Resubmitting the form
If you submit the same email address again within 24 hours, we show you the result already on file instead of creating a new record or sending new emails.
Your choices
You can ask us what information we have tied to your email address, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us at privacy@preclusion.net. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (for example, California residents under the CCPA/CPRA); the same contact address is the way to exercise them.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and change the effective date above.
